Nothing quite puts a Matagorda County brand on Christmas like the lighted boat parades at Matagorda and Sargent. The Matagorda lighted parade had 16 boats resplendent in Yuletide themes and an impressive turnout viewing the event along the docks and sidewalks at Matagorda Harbor Friday night, Nov. 24. The Sargent Lighted Boat Parade had 39 vessels sporting different Christmas themes, colors and inflatable figures, mostly of Santa. The Sargent parade begins at the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and winds seven miles up Caney Creek – an entertaining sight for all those gathered on docks and at residences, many of which also are decorated for the season.
