To recognize Matagorda County’s 11 volunteer fire departments service to the county’s citizens, County Judge Nate McDonald and Commissioners Court voted Monday to make a one-time appropriation of $2,500 to each of the departments.
“This was made possible by working with the 130th District Court on a 2017 budget adjustment from budgeted funds,” McDonald explained.
“Our volunteer fire departments are an important part of the team that keeps Matagorda County residents safe and answers emergency calls in times of need,” the judge added.
“Each of these men and women give selflessly of their personal time to serve and protect their neighbors and the court wishes to help further fund their needs through this one time contribution to our volunteer fire departments.”
McDonald pointed out that “these brave men and women also hold numerous fundraisers during the year to help fund their needs.
“I call on everyone to please participate in your local volunteer fire department’s efforts.”
In other action, the court:
- Approved James D. Mitchell and Jason D. Ball as Deputy Constables with Precinct 6 Constable Bill Orton’s office, pending their required training for licensing.
Mitchell is a former Matagorda County Sheriff, while Ball has seven years of law enforcement experience from Cherokee County in East Texas, Orton said.
